Co-Captain's log #72 It's been 475 days since we first breached the atmosphere of this place and made an emergency landing in one of its many oceans. Through hundreds of hours of retrospection and research over the data we gathered before the ship crashed I began to realize that our odds of being contacted by the main fleet were slim to none; if I had to make a more precise guess I would say you'd be more likely to get struck by lightning in a forest. Despite this, I've remained devoted to finding a way for us to continue surviving in this strange planet- though that isn't to say we haven't been met with our own set of challenges. Since my last log we've lost 5 members of the crew, one of which was our lead biologist Kendrick Wilkins. It was an unfortunate and regrettable loss of life that could've easily been prevented if only some modicum of care had been taken, but the fault lies with no one man in particular, and thus our hostilities remain aimless and chaotic towards one another. The fauna on this planet are unlike any I can recall back from our home world, nor from any of the worlds we'd made contact with since the exploration mission began two decades ago. It is as diverse and plentiful as it is unrivaled in its threatening presence. We find ourselves constantly at arms against monstrous lifeforms with seemingly boundless mechanisms to hunt their prey; as Wilkins once said not long after we arrived, "It would be a marvel to observe their behaviors, it's a shame they seem so hellbent on making us their next meal." It hasn't been all bad, though. The agricultural project we began back in January has finally begun to bear some real fruit- no pun intended- and our battle against imminent starvation has begun to wane. We had quite a scare last fall when we realized we only had enough food to last all of us until mid-summer, assuming we all survived on what meager rations we would have to work with by that point. I'm sure that, nutritionally, we would all prefer something a little more than simple starches, but I don't think anyone will complain about having a full stomach for once. Any progress is good progress. To my family back on E-15, I hope that life is treating you well. I heard that you finally got into the college you had been dreaming of since you were a child, though how late this news reached us might mean this information is well over a month old at this point. No matter the case, your father is very proud of you, and will continue to cheer you on from here- I hope my sincerity will reach you, if nothing else. And to my dear wife, not a day passes where I don't regret making more time for you on the day we first left the planet; though I know you'd probably tell me "It's no use regretting the if's or could've been's." Your positive attitude about such things has been one of the only things motivating me to continue onward in this hopeless situation, and the affection I felt for you through that has only become greater since we parted. Whatever signal we managed to get from the remains of the ship has been too inconsistent to send any transmissions to E-15, let alone the main fleet, and so I will continue to presume that none of my logs have been transmitted thus far.
